American Packaging Corporation to install its second Comexi Acom Platinum gravure press

 

September 2011 — American Packaging Corporation (APC) has ordered their second Comexi Acom Platinum custom built gravure press to meet the increased demand for capacity and to maintain the highest level of gravure printing quality. As part of their equipment investment and building expansion strategy, worth $17 million, the company is installing the new press in the Gravure Printing Division located in Columbus, Wisconsin. A major part of their expansion was the decision to purchase a Comexi Acom gravure press based on its cutting‐edge technology that increases the value offered by APC to their customers.

Dennis Couture, Vice President of Operations states: "Our Company was established in 1902, as a family‐run business, whose founder, Samuel Kardon, and later his son Manny Kardon dedicated their efforts to the bag making market. We started in gravure in 1972 through the acquisition of Mosinee Paper Company located in Columbus (WI). Since 1972 the company has grown consistently employing over 550 employees with Gross sales over $300 million US dollars. The goal of the Corporation is to be a leading company In the American market, with a strong commitment of providing the highest level of quality, service and innovation.

"During the last 10 years, we have clearly identified and commercialized market opportunities for the flexible packaging industry. We've focused our efforts on giving a comprehensive solution for the flexible packaging, taking into account the current and future needs of our customers", adds Mr. Couture, "these are a very important factors to support food, pharma, pet food and agrichemical markets requiring the purchase of highly efficient machinery that can meet and exceed stringent manufacturing processes while at the same time providing efficient setup turnarounds."

In regards to our company's objectives, Mr. Couture states that "service and quality is a major part of our corporate culture. Our culture is to have dedicated manufacturing processes that focus and achieve outstanding production efficiencies and excellent quality. This distinct cultural focus has proven to be a successful model on how to achieve the best manufacturing, technical and service to meet our customers ever pressing needs in a global economy. In addition, we have approved investment projects during the last 13 years to adapt our production to the customer's needs ".

COMEXI Acom, deep knowledge in gravure printing "Their commitment to flexographic and gravure technology led APC to Comexi Acom, one of the market leaders in both technologies", he states, "years ago, the Schiavi family convinced us about its in‐depth knowledge, the experience of its staff, adaptability to satisfy our technical request, state‐of‐the‐art equipment and services offered to the market. Basically what I would like to emphasize is the establishment of a team oriented relationship."

"Service is crucial in such a demanding sector", Mr. Couture adds, "we are committed to our second Comexi Acom's Platinum 10‐color press since it has been a very productive and easy machine to operate. We are extremely pleased with our last machine ordered in 2005, which has contributed significantly to the success of the company. I am convinced the value received was well worth the money spent, in addition to the consolidated solvency of Comexi's equipment".

At this point, Gian Vito Schiavi, Managing Director of Comexi Acom, added:"Comexi Group's corporate strategy is to expand the range of our products and solutions ‐ in addition to our deep‐rooted presence in the flexographic printing sector; we have recently commit with the gravure printing sector, with our new brand Acom; we have also a commitment to the lamination processes with the use of the Nexus machine, as well as the slitting processes with Proslit equipment or the use of Enviroxi peripherals. In this industry, technology must translate into productive efficiency at all levels: our equipment must offer an efficient operation, so that our customer can benefit from the associated profits of such operation. In other words, we must not only make sure that our equipment works correctly, but also that they are efficient for our customers ".

The market pressure
It is clear that quality printing and production efficiency is a must, when dealing with top global brands. "We receive an order and it must be delivered within a very tight schedule, exhibit superior print, lamination and slitting quality."

According to Mr.Schiavi, "APC has invested in the right equipment in order to meet the constant changing technology that is critical to the packaging sector." For this reason it is imperative to establish a working relationship between the customer and machine supplier. Mr. Couture states: "I would like to add that that our relationship between APC and Comexi is excellent: we can openly communicate our ideas that drive productive synergy". In that sense, Mr. John Ferreira, Comexi North America Vice‐president adds "Comexi North America is looking forward to growing our relationship with American Packaging and will support the new gravure installation via our Parts and Service organization based in West Springfield, Massachusetts."

Commitment
Mr. Couture adds: "We have are commitment to specialty markets in the flexible packaging sector and we are constantly improving our efficiencies by investing in leading equipment innovation. Currently, our company through its selection of equipment is more than capable of providing the necessary innovation and capacity required by our customers


In the past ten years, American Packaging has experienced sustained growth, including the past three years completing three expansions during such stressful economical times, growth has been notable. "Therefore, we have a promising future ahead of us and it is for this reason we are fully convinced our investments have been wise. The quality of our printing and laminating products is highly valued everywhere and it represents our main objective to be a key player in the flexible packaging market", concludes Mr. Couture.
