SIRANE LAUNCHES SIRA-COOK AS PART OF NEW PUSH INTO FILM PACKAGING

January 4, 2010 - Europe’s premier packaging solutions company, Sirane Ltd, has launched Sira-Cook – a range of innovative bags, pouches and films for packaging and cooking foods in microwaves and conventional ovens.

Sirane director Simon Balderson explains that ‘2010 will see Sirane entering the film packaging markets in earnest with a range of innovative and competition-beating products.’ Balderson believes that the successful Sirane approach to absorbent packaging will now serve the world of packaging films. ‘We take heart from the business model developed by Richard Branson and Virgin among others. In some ways we are everybody’s packaging company; we innovate and make new products to order at very short notice – for chip shop owners to international supermarkets. We are very excited now about making waves and creating markets in the film packaging sectors.’

Sira-Cook will therefore be one of the first such Sirane film products for 2010. Developed as a lightweight alternative for ready meals and marinaded meat and fish, Sira-Cook will be available for an elevated temperature-resistant range of films and has been produced with a rustic and natural look.

Jeremy Haydn-Davies, Sirane’s new Sales Director says that ‘our customers have long searched for another way of heating up and cooking different foods in microwaves and traditional ovens and so we have developed these new bags and pouches. The film is also available on the reel. It has excellent barrier properties and in the non-cookable versions, it is compostable.’

Sira-Cook is available in a myriad of colours and textures. Haydn-Davies believes that some versions - ‘the natural-looking, old-fashioned ‘papery’ look and texture - will do particularly well. The performance parameters are fantastic too - the cookable versions can go to 230C and the microwaveable ones to 160C.’

All of the Sira Cook films can be printed, are very low weight and can be produced through form, fill and seal machines as well as run as reels on flow-wrappers. ‘We are selling huge quantities of these with and without gussets,’ says Haydn-Davies.

He adds that ‘the food typically cooks inside the bags in its own juices, but where there is any excess fat generated, we can then add an absorbent skillet, tailor-made for each application. Any size is available.’The non-cookable version is called Sira-Fresh, the microwavable version Sira-Cook M and the ovenable Sira-Cook R.
