ROCKTENN CORRUGATED PACKAGING, GRAPHICS AND PREPRINT FACILITIES EARN TRIPLE CHAIN-OF-CUSTODY CERTIFICATION

NORCROSS, Ga., Jul 30, 2010 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Continuing its commitment to environmental responsibility, RockTenn announces that it has received triple chain-of-custody (CoC) certification for all of its corrugated packaging facilities including converting, graphics and preprint locations.

Certified corrugated converting facilities include locations in Athens, AL; Camillus, NY; Dayton, NJ; Deer Park, NY; Devens, MA; Gallatin, TN; Hauppauge, NY; Lancaster, PA; Mooresville, NC; Murfreesboro, TN; Newark, NJ; Norcross, GA; and Spartanburg, SC. Certified graphics and preprint operations include locations in Dayton, NJ; Hebron, KY; and Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. These facilities are now independently certified to standards of the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI(R)), Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), and Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC), representing the leading global forestry certification bodies. These organizations provide standards for third-party validation of each plant's documented processes and chain-of-custody monitoring.

Additionally, all facilities are certified to SFI(R)'s fiber sourcing procurement requirements. This combination of certifications provides RockTenn customers with the highest degree of flexibility in making chain-of-custody or fiber sourcing claims. "The certifications will help our facilities meet growing customer demands for verification of fiber sourcing and proof of sustainable forest/fiber management," said Jim Porter, executive vice president, RockTenn. "We are proud to provide our customers with the most stringent fiber certification possible, along with satisfying their needs as a high quality, low cost producer."

RockTenn is committed to environmental stewardship, sustainable business practices and sustainable solutions for its customers. This long-standing environmental focus guides how the Company collects, processes and recycles materials; produces paperboard with virgin fiber and recycled materials; and operates its facilities. A sustainable approach helps RockTenn eliminate waste, reduce energy consumption and minimize its impact on the environment. RockTenn is a member of the Fibre Box Association, Corrugated Packaging Alliance, 100% Recycled Paperboard Alliance (RPA100), the Sustainable Packaging Coalition (SPC), the American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA), and the National Council for Air and Stream Improvements (NCASI).
