SHEETFED GRAVURE IN USA AND CANADA

February 2010 — Sheet-fed Gravure printing is gaining in popularity as the American continent discovers the advantages it offers.

Gravure’s print quality is excellent, and no kiss print processes, like offset and flexo, can reach its consistently high level. Most veterans of the printing industry know the process, but instruction and education were in the last century seemed to focus more on offset and flexo. The immediate question is, naturally, “Why did that happen?” The answer is not easy, but from the point of view of today, it is very clear if one turns the wheel of history.

Gravure , the simplest and and most stable printing process, was practiced in China at the beginning of the 15th century. Simply said: “Bring hollows into a plate or cylinder, fill in the ink, sweep the plate or cylinder, put on top the substrate and press it. The printing material will suck the ink out of the hollows and show the image.” But while China is where the process originated, it was Europe that developed the new high-tech gravure presses.

Today, gravure and its supplementary machinery are part of an industrial manufacturing process that is in a constant state of research and successful development.

Investment in sheet-fed gravure presses will deliver returns on the investment by delivering outstanding printing results.  Environmental friendly inks with natural pigments and aqueous varnishes can be used in many fields. And, the sheet-fed press, as a single- or a multi-color press, is the tool to use for today’s shorter print jobs than.

This is the reason why Moog single- and multi-color sheet-fed gravure presses are operating successfully all over the world.

Printing houses around the world appreciate the advantage of adding value using H. C. Moog’s multi-color sheet-fed gravure presses. Eco-friendly print production, short runs, and multiple applications are among the primary reasons investors are attracted to sheet-fed printing.  Additional advantages include high level and glossy sheet images in all varieties, hidden information for brand protection, micro-embossing, water-based varnishing or UV varnishing, inline.

Sheet-fed gravure printing also offers an alternative for lamination and bronzing. Another important feature is the calendaring possibility for package printing, which is the alternative for UV-varnishing.

The gravure sheet-fed-technology is of German origin. Presses are available in the 3B size 740/1040 mm, equipped with customized configurations.
