RockTenn's Aurora Specialty Paperboard Products Mill Earns Chain of Custody Certification from Forest Stewardship Council

NORCROSS, Ga.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May. 5, 2009-- Continuing with its long standing commitment to environmental responsibility, RockTenn announces that its Specialty Paperboard Products mill in Aurora, IL has received Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) chain of custody certification. This certification provides third-party validation of the mill’s sustainable fiber sourcing practices.

“For decades, the Aurora mill has been an environmentally responsible manufacturer, producing products made from 100% recycled paperboard. In addition to our regular Red Label® grades, we also produce a Red Label® product made from 100% post-consumer recycled content,” said Dick Steed, executive vice president, Specialty Paperboard Products division. “FSC certification gives our customers assurance that the products we supply meet stringent environmental standards. We will continue to do what is right for our customers, as well as the environment.”

FSC is one of the leading non-profit, non-governmental organizations recognized globally for promoting responsible forest management. Chain of custody is the path taken by raw materials harvested from an FSC-certified source through processing, manufacturing, distribution and print until it becomes a final product ready for sale to the end consumer.

In operation since 1909, the RockTenn Aurora mill is a leading North American producer and converter of 100% recycled uncoated specialty paperboard. RockTenn Binders Board is a high-density solid 100% recycled paperboard that is highly resistant to bending and has a high degree of surface smoothness ideally suited for reference and scientific annuals; premium trade books; elementary, high school and college textbooks and library rebinding.

RockTenn is committed to environmental stewardship, sustainable business practices and sustainable solutions for its customers. This long standing environmental focus guides how the company collects, processes and recycles materials; produces paperboard with virgin fiber and recycled materials; and operates its facilities. A sustainable approach helps RockTenn minimize its impact on the environment.

RockTenn is a member of the 100% Recycled Paperboard Alliance (RPA100), the Sustainable Packaging Coalition (SPC), the American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA) and the National Council for Air and Stream Improvements (NCASI).
