PLGA Global Board Member Randy Butler presents Peter Daetwyler with the 2008 PLGA Global Lifetime Achievement Award |
Rochester, NY, March 26, 2009 — PLGA Global is proud to announce the recipient for its 2008 Lifetime Achievement Award, Peter Daetwyler, Max Daetwyler Corporation. Peter was honored at PLGA Global’s recent Operational Conference, held March 11-13, at the Hilton Downtown in Miami, Florida.
Peter began his career in the Gravure printing industry in Switzerland. After completing his mechanical engineering apprenticeship, he helped his father, Max Daetwyler, found of Mac Daetwyler Corporation (MDC), build automatic etching machines, plating equipment, and other equipment used for cylinder preparation. Peter then helped to develop and this technology along with the newly designed MDC doctor blades.
The growth of Gravure printing brought Peter to the United Stated in 1975, where the Daetwyler Corporation established a firm base for sales and service of prepress equipment and doctor blades. In 1990, Peter relocated the company from New York to North Carolina.
Peter was one of the developers of the Apprenticeship Training Program for students in North Carolina. It combines hands-on practical training with the education necessary to acquire the technical skills needed to produce high-quality equipment. He was also a contributor for the cylinder-making project books published by the GAA. His excitement for the Gravure industry is evident in the new technology and equipment MDC continues to introduce to the market.
Peter is a member of the Board of Trustees for the Gravure Education Foundation and was inducted into the Gravure Cylinder Society in 1999. He is also an active member of PLGA, GAA, PICA, GATF, the Flexo Graphics Association, and the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce.
Presently, Peter is living in Switzerland and acts as President of the Board of Directors at the Bleinbach, Switzerland Corporate Headquarters. His son, Ralph Daetwyler is now serving as the President of the U. S. operations.
The PLGA Global membership gave Peter a standing ovation as PLGA Global Board Member Randy Butler presented Peter his award.
