Hartsville, S.C., JUne 26, 2008 — Sonoco (NYSE: SON), one of the largest diversified
global packaging companies, recently received The Coca-Cola Company’s
“Partners in the Promise” Award for its support of Coca-Cola’s second-tier
diversity initiative at an awards celebration honoring Supplier Diversity
Champions and Partners in Atlanta, Ga. Sonoco was the only corporation to
receive the prestigious award for 2007.
“We believe second-tier engagement with minority- and women-owned
enterprises (MWBEs) is critical to the success of supplier diversity,” said
Johnnie B. Booker, global director, Supplier Diversity, The Coca-Cola
Company. “As one of our major suppliers, Sonoco has embraced our
second-tier program and become a committed, proactive partner in helping us
reach and include more MWBE suppliers in our procurement process.”
