Intelligent Measurement and Monitoring Systems with Comprehensive Process Skills

The eltromat product lines, standing for high efficiency and customer value, are the result of a technically mature product line concept, which relies on high-quality, technologically leading systems from one source, comprehensive process skills as well as user-specific project planning and a global service network. The two-storey eltromat fair booth with more than 150 m” in hall 16 will again be a meeting point and communication centre for professional visitors and experts, who would like to inform themselves of the latest generation of intelligent measurement methods and most modern control and monitoring systems for printing processes in gravure, flexographic, offset and silkscreen printing. The highlights of the eltromat system portfolio will be presented on so-called competence islands, where the main product focus of each business line will be shown in practice via system simulation. Not only at the eltromat booth, but also on several fair printing machines of many famous press manufacturer newly developed eltromat systems will be in use.
Especially in the focus of the eltromat drupa presentation will be the demonstration of printing presses, which are increasingly configured with combinations of several printing methods and which are standing for high production flexibility. Based on the long experiences of the eltromat group at projects in all printing technologies, comprehensive information about so-called hybrid machines will be given by experts.
The drupa trade fair novelties for web inspection webvideo_star 1000 and webvideo_star 2000 with modular complete equipment (_sis, _bc, _icm, _ci und _fast), the jobcon workstation, the PrintQualitySystem offcon_4 or the Closed-Loop-Colour Control System densicon_2 are concept of an again expanded system portfolio of the eltromat group. They are characterised by significant unique selling points and set new standards for most modern control and inspection technologies in the individual printing methods.
The eltromat product range with modular precision instruments and control systems offers from economic entry models to professional high end systems all that is expected by professional drupa-visitors and customers from a leading manufacturer, who has proved its worth as a competent and high-class partner of the printing industry.
The new developed video platform of eltromat will be documented at the drupa via the web inspection systems webvideo_star 1000 and webvideo_star 2000. The digital system technology, shown via simulator operation, presents a significant improvement of the illumination of the image detail of the web. All known illumination units will be demonstrated in operation (standard illumination, register backlight, illumination unit for the visualisation of lacquer and varnish, illumination unit for the visualisation of fluorescent lights, homogeneous backlight for the illumination of transparent substrates during front and reverse printing).
The new eltromat video systems provide a substantial time saving on the job preparation as well as during the set-up phase. Minimal operating expense and higher reachable machine speeds are the results. A significant potential consists further in the quality improvement and assurance. Optimal monitoring of the printed image, permanent inspection of the print quality as well as recording and transfer of quality-relevant data are essential advantages. The systems are self-optimising and â•„ beside outstanding image quality â•„ they feature optimal results in all colour contrasts and substrates.
A world first at the eltromat booth is the procedural combination of the web inspection system webvideo_star 2000 with a register control system. Thereby an automation level will be realised at the highest stage, providing a maximum waste and set-up time saving by minimum operating expense. Thus the long-winded manual adjustments of the printer after job changes will be automated and negative influences of conventional measurement will be excluded.
With the jobcon workstation, likewise presented on the drupa, eltromat underlines its attractiveness also in the field of data conversion and workflow competence. The digital system conduces to the job preparation for the PrintQualitySystem offcon_4 as well as for the Closed-Loop-Colour Control System densicon_2. In addition to the calculation of the pre-adjustment values of the colour control coming from a CIP3/CIP4 data file, video positions and register control will be prepared as well as the nominal values of the colour density will be defined - for the whole printing width respectively sections. This is especially rewarding for the package printing, where several packages/labels are printed on the machines.
Particular interest of the international drupa visitors will be attracted by the state-of-the-art PrintQualitySystem offcon_4 belonging to the product line eltromat_integral with its integrated high-performance modules from the lines eltromat_colour, eltromat_vision and eltromat_register. This all-in-one system will be presented on the fair with a newly developed digital high-performance camera. The new camera is the most important component of the new video system for the web inspection. During the preparation stage video positions can be determined by means of a preview image which comes from a CIP3 or CIP4 data file. The display detail can vary between 15 x 10 and 220 x 160 mm. The video system provides further the function of the remote diagnosis. Another part of this evolution is the camera-based control of further aggregates as integrated flexo printing units or tool stations with dot marks.
With a camera the length and side register of these additional aggregates are automatically adjusted after production start. The adjustment is inspected by the operator via a touch_screen monitor at the control desk and is further menu-driven. The fast reached register accuracy leads to a production start without any time lag. By the absolute measurement of the register dot marks of 1 mm diameter the measurement cameras permit highest accuracy. By the measuring with cameras the offcon_4 compensates safely web movements and web flutters â•„ symptoms which distort exact measurement results at conventional register control systems.
The high-tech system is a decisive innovation in the field of electronic control and optimisation of printing processes. With the only real integrated solution which is available on the market, especially at demanding print jobs on a wide range of print substrates, new quality and productivity opportunities will be developed. The eltromat PrintQualitySystem offcon_4 with its electronic control functions is characterised by high user benefits. Shortest set-up times and extremely low waste values are the outstanding features of the system. Speed and production capability result from latest processing unit and camera technology in conjunction with high-speed data transfer.
Also the Closed-Loop-Colour-Control System densicon_2 developed for the use in offset printing machines will be shown first-time on the forthcoming drupa. It presents an innovative system solution for Closed-Loop Colour Control and quality monitoring in offset printing presses. Compared to the previous generation it is characterised by a two-sided application as well as by the operation mode with smaller mark patterns and staggered marks. With the new development another gap in the field of colour workflow will be closed. densicon_2 is the answer to increasing material prices and stands for cost minimisation via significant shortening of the set-up times for the ink key adjustment as well as for the lowering of the start-up and print-run waste. Moreover the eltromat densicon_2 offers a lowering of the correction steps for the colour adjustment, objective control of the print quality, excellent colour stability during print run, constant quality at repeat jobs as well as protocol function as proof of the print quality to customers.
