PLGA Global’s New Gravure Task Force Team
Leads the Way

Mission:
To change perceptions and spread awareness of key developments that will secure a future for the Gravure process in North America.
Some identified key developments:

  • Totally Digital Prepress
  • Lighter image Carriers
  • Laser Imaging/Engraving into Alternative Substrates
  • Press-side Engraving

Goals/Metrics:

  • To recognize and develop innovation that will enhance the performance, value and cost effectiveness of the Gravure process.
  • To identify the facts and promote the capabilities of the rotogravure process to educational institutions, industry organizations and consumer products companies.
  • To create scenarios that will demonstrate the potential for technical innovation and cost improvements in the Gravure process.
  • To promote communication between the production floor and management; also support the education of all those engaged in, or impacted by the gravure process.
  • To address the development of the process with suppliers as an industry, rather than individuals; in order that they may respond to the true potential of the market.

Expanding on PLGA Global’s mission, it is the goal of the team to seek out and develop new technology and to promote the gravure process to students, shop floor printers, and future gravure customers.

By using PLGA Global’s “Gravure Roadshow” as a vehicle, the team has presented to printer groups in Atlanta, Chicago and Toronto, and to a student group at Clemson University. From the feedback received, they are refining the ways to deliver their message, providing (for example) a series of YouTube 101, 201 and 301 seminars accompanied by a gravure blog. Complimenting this spread of the gravure message, they will shortly communicate the benefits of gravure to the consumer product companies, using cost, capabilities, and environmental impact as their focus.

The 2010 PLGA Global Print Quality Awards show demonstrate why gravure can be the process of choice. The Task Force’s mission is to help our customers make that same decision. If you are interested in joining the Task Force Team, contact PLGA Global at laurah@plga.com.
